Learning from the Mountain Zebras
Mountain zebras are among the rarest zebras in the world. About 2,700 of them still live in the wild in South Africa today. Their habitat consists of mountain slopes and plateaus—up to an altitude of 2,000 meters. They live in small, stable family groups that often remain together for many years.
What makes them special: In challenging situations, mountain zebras share leadership depending on the circumstances. This is precisely a beautiful metaphor for modern collaboration: sometimes expertise leads, sometimes experience, and sometimes perspective. Mountain Zebra therefore stands for shared direction in times of change.

Katharina Berres is the founder of Mountain Zebra – and someone who would rather make things happen than simply manage them. She loves fresh perspectives, good questions, and those moments when things suddenly click for a team. She listens closely, brings structure to ideas, and helps turn them into action – step by step.
Her work brings together Digital Business Model Innovation, strategy, and Learning & Development. As a lecturer in Digital Business Models, she combines theory and practice – with curiosity, clarity, and a drive to create meaningful change.
